The Bluff Mountain Music Festival, located on the grounds of the Hot Springs Resort and Spa, is a daylong outdoor festival that features many of the best traditional, old-time, and bluegrass musicians and dancers in the region. Madison County has one of the oldest continuous ballad singing traditions in the United States, and local ballad singers are often part of the program. The festival was originally started to help prevent logging on Bluff Mountain, and the proceeds from the festival now benefit the Madison County Arts Council. The Hot Springs resort was one of many that were built at the turn of the twentieth century in response to visitors seeking the healing powers of mountain mineral waters. The mineral waters of the Hot Springs Spa maintain a 100-degree temperature all year round. Jacuzzis filled with curative waters are available at the spa, and the campground features full hookups and hot showers.
